Mr. Nguyen Chi Dong, the fastest marathoner in Vietnam, will be present at the VPBank Hanoi Marathon 2022 to hand over the prestigious “Golden Running Step” cup to the next generation.

After nearly 19 years, no runners have surpassed the result of 2 hours 21 minutes 51 seconds (2:21:51) that runner Nguyen Chi Dong (born in 1980) set in December 2003 at the SEA Games 22, held at Hanoi's My Dinh National Stadium. It's been the national record of marathon for Vietnames men ever since.

At the VPBank Hanoi Marathon 2022’s Opening Ceremony to be held at 8:00 p.m. on October 15, Mr. Nguyen Chi Dong will present the 24-carat gold-plated cup to a group of professional and non-professional runners, with the wish of a breakthrough on Vietnam's leading professional race track and the search for the successor would come to an end.

Mr. Nguyen Chi Dong will share with all runners participating in the race his knowledge of training, nutrition, as well as the secrets to achieving high results.

After that, Mr. Nguyen Chi Dong will compete with nearly 2,000 runners in the 4.22-km Mini Marathon.

Held annually since 2018, the VPBank Hanoi Marathon has become Hanoi’s official race and won recognition to be a member of the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) since 2019, with a running track standardized by AIMS experts and the Vietnam Athletics Federation. The VPBank Hanoi Marathon has joined the Age Group Ranking System of Abbott World Marathon Majors. VPBank Hanoi Marathon results can be used to qualify at any of the World Six Majors, including the prestigious Boston Marathon.
