NEW INTERNATIONAL AND TRADE NAME

OF HANOI MARATHON HERITAGE RACE

Duc Huong Anh Co., Ltd (DHA Vietnam), the owner and the Organizer of the Hanoi Marathon - Heritage Race - VPBank Hanoi Marathon, would like to announce: As of February 2023, the marathon no longer carries its old trade name and reverts to the officially licensed name, namely:

- In Vietnamese: Giải Marathon Quốc tế Di sản Hà Nội

- In English (The new trade name): Hanoi Marathon - Heritage Race

Held for the first time in 2018 as the Hanoi International Heritage Marathon, the race was the only one with a running track located entirely in the Old Quarter and the most central districts of Hanoi, with the start and finish points at Hoan Kiem Lake. In its debut race, the marathon attracted more than 3,000 professional and non-professional runners both Vietnamese and foreigners. In particular, with professional organization technology following the model of world famous marathons, the marathon has attracted the attention and companionship of many major brands. From 2019 to 2022, VPBank was the title sponsor associated with the name of the marathon, so the Hanoi Marathon Heritage Race carried the commercial name of VPBank Hanoi Marathon.

The 2019 marathon has attracted more than 6,000 runners from more than 50 countries around the world. In 2020, the marathon was selected the official cultural and sports activity of Vietnam on the occasion of Vietnam taking the ASEAN Chairmanship post, and it received a certificate of merit from the Minister of Culture and Sports. In 2021, the marathon was once again honored to be selected as a race to pick professional runners and 200 Vietnamese non-professional runners with excellent performance to accompany the 31st SEA Games.

In order to realize the vision of becoming an international marathon, contributing to the sports movement and improve the physical fitness of Vietnamese people while actively promoting the image of the country and the people of Vietnam to the world, DHA Vietnam has decided for the marathon to carry a new trade name and won’t be associated with any trademark.

Starting from February 2023, the Hanoi Marathon - Heritage Race will return with the race’s licensed name. This is a strategic innovation so that from this point of time, the Hanoi Marathon - Heritage Race can launch strong communication and promotion to the international runner community, especially to the associations and international organizations which share the vision of making marathons a bridge between sports, culture, and travel experiences. This carries a special importance as the world is starting to move through the post-pandemic recovery phase. The heritage element of a capital with a thousand-year civilization will serve as a unique strength to attract foreign runners, especially those from ASEAN countries.

With the race date confirmed by the Hanoi People's Committee to be October 15, 2023, the Hanoi Marathon Heritage Race will have a completely new look: being younger, more dynamic, similar to Hanoi which has been moving strongly after the pandemic. By this time, the marathon has attracted a large number of runners registered to compete and DHA Vietnam has plans to tap the international market with the registration so as to attract more foreign runners. DHA Vietnam considers this step as the most practical contribution to Vietnam's tourism development goals, thereby contributing to the development of the country's economy. Now the company has been conducting many cooperation and offshore market expansion activities.

DHA Vietnam would like to respectfully inform organizations, partners, companions, sponsors and especially Vietnamese and foreign runners to keep in mind that ‘Hanoi Marathon - Heritage Race’ is now the new trade name of the race.

All the benefits of accompanying parties, sponsors, of the runners who have registered by January 31, 2023 to compete in the race are fully reserved, without any changes.

Held annually since 2018, the Hanoi Marathon – Heritage Race has become Hanoi’s official race and won recognition to be a member of the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) since 2019, with a running track standardized by AIMS experts and the Vietnam Athletics Federation. The marathon has joined the Age Group Ranking System of Abbott World Marathon Majors. Hanoi Marathon – Heritage Race results can be used to qualify at any of the World Six Majors, including the prestigious Boston Marathon.
