Vietnam’s Largest Marathon Set to Take Place in Hanoi (ThanhNien)

The Standard Chartered Hanoi Marathon Heritage Race 2024, Vietnam’s largest marathon, will officially commence on November 3, 2024.

The event is expected to attract over 18,000 runners, marking a 150% increase from the previous edition and setting a record for marathons in Vietnam. Among them, approximately 1,300 international runners from 55 countries will take part.

The race routes of the Standard Chartered Hanoi Marathon Heritage Race are designed to meet the standards of the world’s top marathons. All four distances (5 km, 10 km, 21 km, and 42 km) are certified by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS). Participants can use their race results to qualify for the Abbott World Marathon Majors Age Group World Championships—a prestigious international series that includes the New York Marathon, Chicago Marathon, London Marathon, Boston Marathon, Tokyo Marathon, and Berlin Marathon.

Starting from Ho Thien Quang, runners will pass through Hanoi’s ancient streets and historic neighborhoods, traverse the scenic West Lake—one of the most picturesque spots in the capital—and run through bustling districts such as Hai Ba Trung, Hoan Kiem, Ba Dinh, Dong Da, and Tay Ho, representing Hanoi’s modern and dynamic growth.

Notably, the full marathon (FM) course will take runners past five iconic lakes in Hanoi: Hoan Kiem Lake, West Lake, Truc Bach Lake, Ngoc Khanh Lake, and Ho Thien Quang, as well as historic landmarks such as Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and Ba Dinh Square.
While the event prioritizes an exceptional experience for runners, the top priority remains safety.

The Standard Chartered Hanoi Marathon Heritage Race 2024 is the first race in Vietnam to partner with Bach Mai Hospital, one of Vietnam’s leading central hospitals, as its official medical sponsor. Ten fully equipped ambulances will be stationed along the race routes, and over 1,000 medical personnel from the hospital will be present to ensure immediate response and effective emergency care.
