VPBank Hanoi Marathon 2021 Designs Unique Running Track

Runners competing at the VPBank Hanoi Marathon 2021, Vietnam's leading professional race, will experience their exclusively reserved running track and crossing the Finish line on the pitch in My Dinh National Stadium for the first time.

The VPBank Hanoi Marathon 2021, to be held on March 6, 2022, is the last race to select professional runners to represent Vietnam to compete for medals at the 31st SEA Games, and at the same time select 200 non-professional runners to accompany the regional sporting event.

The running track of the marathon will also be the Full Marathon (FM) track of the 31st SEA Games, including a part of the Formula 1 (F1) racing track and some other streets in My Dinh, Hanoi.

Specifically the route includes eight loops, each of 5.165 km long, with the Finish line inside the My Dinh National Stadium. For the first time ever, marathoners will be able to run on a fully fenced track, with no traffic interfering with the competition, an experience only available in the world's top races.

Adding another special point, this is also the first time that non-professional runners can experience the feeling of zooming in the Finish gate right on the pitch where professional runners compete. Crossing the Finish line in the cheers and excitement of the Race Organizing Committee (ROC) on My Dinh Stadium will bring runners a feeling of excitement and pride in this high-class race.

The VPBank Hanoi Marathon 2021 track has been carefully measured by Vietnam Athletics Federation experts, using equipment and applying measuring procedures that meet the standards of the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) to ensure the highest accuracy.

Runners participating in the race will be assured of the running standards monitored by the Federation, and do not have to worry about all results conveyed from the GPS sensor running watch which is often affected by weather, vehicles, high-rise buildings and other factors from the surrounding environment.

Given this is the top race attended by 600 FM runners who have been selected based on their outstanding running results,

- Runners need to master the route map, memorize the route as well as actively count and be responsible for counting the number of loops (the ROC has provided full information to the runners in advance).

- The ROC has a team of volunteers to support the race, but the ultimate responsibility for running the right track belongs to the runners.

- Runners are encouraged to wear a running watch with GPS for reference and support during the marathon to make sure they follow the right track.

Held annually since 2018, the VPBank Hanoi Marathon has become Hanoi’s official race and won recognition to be a member of the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) since 2019, with a running track standardized by AIMS experts and the Vietnam Athletics Federation. Runners’ results, in addition to be qualified for competing in the 31st SEA Games, are still recognized to qualify for the prestigious Boston Marathon. The VPBank Hanoi Marathon has joined the Age Group Ranking System of Abbott World Marathon Majors, counting from 2022.
