HANOI, March 11 (DHA Vietnam) - Hanoi, Vietnam’s capital, has been picked as one of the world’s 100 best cities to live, work and invest by Canada’s Resonance Consultancy.

Home to nearly 7,4 million people, Vietnam’s capital was ranked 97th in Vancouver-based Resonance’s World’s Best Cities 2023 report, which was issued in early March. Resonance is a leading global advisor in real estate, tourism and economic development.

The report ranks global cities by using a combination of statistical performance and qualitative evaluations by locals and visitors in 24 areas grouped into six core categories, namely place, programming, prosperity, product, people and promotion.

Highlights for Hanoi’s rank, standing right behind Ottawa of Canada and ahead of Japan’s Sendai, included the 4th position for Outdoors, measured by the number of quality parks and outdoor activities recommended by locals and visitors, and the 15th for Employment Rate, with data available as of July 2022.

Dong Xuan market is “a big reason for the city’s 19th global ranking in our Shopping subcategory”, the report said, adding that other places worth a visit included the 950-year-old public campus of Vietnam’s first university at the Temple of Literature and Halong Bay nearby.

A poster with a scene in Halong Bay used by Vietnam National Administration of Tourism to promote its “Live Fully in Vietnam”campaign launched in December 2021.

“Small wonder that Hanoi ranks 4th globally for Outdoors, especially when you count mind-bending Halong Bay, dotted with huge limestone islands and caves and home to dozens of floating fishing villages,” the report said.

Ha Long Bay, one of the world’s new seven Wonders of Nature, is around 160 km (100 miles) east of Hanoi.

London, Paris and New York topped the 100-best city list while Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, was selected as 2023 honorary world’s best city.

Runnes raced at a Hanoi marathon organized by DHA Vietnam in October 2022.
