Xtep Plans All-round Training for 2019 VPBank Hanoi Marathon Runners

HANOI, Sept 24 (VHM) - Two Chinese coaches will address all-round issues related to long-distance running skills and help Vietnamese athletes prepare for a major international marathon scheduled late next month in Hanoi, Vietnam's capital, organizers of the race said.

While running has been popular in the Southeast Asian country, experts said many still lack skills and proper training as well as experience while competing in major races. In recent years, international marathons have been organized in various cities across Vietnam, having drawn the participation of foreign runners and also stimulated the training spirit for the sport among Vietnamese people.

Coach Tang Tao from Beijing Sport University and female athlete Jin Chunping, champion of several international races, will host a training session on October 5 to help enhance running performance, highlight basic skills and improve running capacity, said the Race Organizing Committee (ROC) of the VPBank Hanoi Marathon - Heritage Race 2019 (VHM).

The training next month is the second arranged by Hong Kong-listed sportswear firm Xtep International Holdings Limited, which was picked as VHM's exclusive sportswear sponsor in late August. Dozens of VHM pacers and Vietnamese runners attended the first training, also hosted by Tang Tao, on August 31 and gave positive feedback of his session.

VHM, scheduled to take place in Hanoi on Oct 20, is expected to draw attention of at least 5,500 runners, more than doubling the number of participants in a similar event held in the city in 2018.

Given the rising interest in VHM and gender differences, the ROC has invited Jin, a coach of Xtep running club in Beijing, to support and improve skills for female athletes.

The two coaches will work with the trainees in some 20 exercises, including warm–up, running technique, an actual run around Hanoi's central lake of Hoan Kiem and stretching and relaxing know-how after the run.

Hoan Kiem lake in Hanoi's Old Quarter  will serve as the venue for VHM's Start and Finish line. VHM runners will compete in four categories, including the 42-km marathon and the 21-km half-marathon on several courses which link the lake in the Old Quarter with another two landmarks, the Long Bien Bridge across the Red River and West Lake.
